Geocoding
STEP 4
Inputting address data
Geocoding is an automated process supported by standardization processes. Still, the proper preparation of address data in customer and employee import files is essential. Thanks to correctly entered data, geocoding will be more accurate, and thus – more addresses will gain a more precise location.
Geocoding accuracy levels
In our system there are 5 levels of geocoding accuracy that depend on the quality of the address data entered:
- 1. No location assigned
- 2. Assigned to the center of the town
- 3. Assigned to the center of the street
- 4. Correctly geocoded address data
- 5. Result of manual geocoding
These levels are listed from the least accurate to most accurate geocoding assignment. Manual geocoding is usually practiced by representatives who know the exact location of the customer, and can therefore improve its position in the system.
The goal of geocoding is not only to assign geographical location to the largest number of customers, but also to assign them the most accurate location. The more precise the definition of the locations are, the more reliable the results of routing and loading of territories.
